In today’s major news for the gaming industry, Epic Games has announced a new acquisition. The makers of the popular Battle Royale game Fortnite have announced that they have acquired Pysonix. For those who are unaware of Psyonix, it is an independent game development studio. And it is famous because of the extremely popular game developed by them, Rocket League. Rocket League is a soccer game which is played on vehicles.
Although Epic Games did not reveal the amount involved in this acquisition, we expect it to be a huge sum. With this acquisition, Psyonix says that the resources will help them in Rocket League’s e-sports development. Also, we will soon see the game on Epic’s PC store by the end of 2019 promises Psyonix.
With this, it is evident that the game will not be available on Valve’s Steam store as it is a competitor to Epic Store. However, Variety reports that the users who have bought Rocket League from Valve’s store will continue to have access. Also, they will be able to download future updates for the game.
Though, it must be said that it does not make sense to purchase the game from Steam anymore. Because it might not be long before the game is pulled from the store for new users. This is also hinted by Psyonix in its official statement:
The PC version of Rocket League will come to the Epic Games store in late 2019. It will continue to be available for purchase on Steam; it will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing purchasers.
As far as Rocket League’s availability on Steam is concerned, Epic Games seems to have not made the decision yet. Because on one hand, Epic says that Rocket League will continue to be available on Valve’s Steam store. Whereas on the other hand, Epic notes that the game will be available on Steam “for all existing purchasers”.
