The Unicode consortium announced today that it is delaying the release of Unicode 14 by six months. Reason? Coronavirus pandemic.
Initially it was assumed that version 14 will be released in the fall of 2021, but unfortunately this will not happen. A few hours ago it was announced that the release would be delayed and would not take place until spring 2022. As a reminder, I would like to add that the Unicode 14 emoji should hit iOS 15 at the end of 2021.
iOS 14, which will be released this year, will use the approved version of Unicode Standard 13 with 117 new emoticons.
In brief. By 2022, the only emoji update will be this year’s autumn release, which will be on iOS 14.
